Dating your Spouse...

About a year ago I posted a great little resolution. A fantastic idea. A wonderful challenge that would involve dating and making it creative. I was excited. My husband was excited. My friends were even excited.

Except…

…it flopped.

The Alphabet Dating Adventure barely got off the ground before we allowed our lives, jobs, and overall inability to balance life, to derail the adventure and result in - this is painful - possibly 8 months without a date!

Are you gasping?

I think I did when I actually had to figure that out! It isn't like we didn't do things together, but you certainly can't count a trip to Home Depot or Target as a date. I know…a few of you out there are cringing or pretending like you didn't count those moments, but you did. Don't do that…don't allow mundane every day necessities to count as dates. Just because you get 20 minutes without the kids to run to the store, does not mean you and your husband went on a date. It means you had time for a conversation while you were buying things for the kids!

So, we are going to try to date again. I think we have lowered the bar, to be honest. Clearly, working through the alphabet in one year was way too much, so we are thinking smaller.

Resolutions...

What is your New Year's Resolution? In my years of making resolutions and discussing them with friends, I find that most revolve around two things. Looking better and living better.

Looking Better...

I find this generally involves losing weight, but it is really about more than that. It is about gaining self-confidence from feeling better about how you look. This year I have resolved to get stronger, but also to continue working on making my skin look better. So...I currently back squat, deadlift, and use fantastic skincare products to boost my confidence!

Living Better...

That is more complicated. We all want to live better, but we believe it is out of our control. The job we have, with the schedule we are stuck with, is what we must live with until we retire. REDEFINE 2014 by REDEFINING yourself!

This takes time and effort...REDEFINING yourself, but I think that 2014 is the year to do it! I will do it personally, socially, professionally, and spiritually. Okay...that looks overwhelming when I write it all out like that! However, it is time to spend time re-evaluating somethings and deciding to really search out what I want and need to make life work for my family.

Professionally, I will continue my full time job - I actually like it! But, I also plan to work as a Rodan and Fields Skincare Consultant to make extra money to get us out of debt! I want to pay off all the school loans (among other debt) that we have! This business has amazing products and an amazing opportunity, so why not chase the dream and find the success I want?

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you are able to reflect on 2013 and be thankful for many of the fantastic events that occurred. Thank you 2013...

Now, let's ring in a new year! 2014! Let's REDEFINE our story to the one we want! Let's have the year we want - not the one we let happen to us!

What are your plans?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

...or is it? Okay...everywhere I go there are trees and ornaments, cute snowmen, and twinkle lights. I just don't feel it right now. Seriously, I don't feel it, and I ALWAYS feel it. I love Christmas and decorating. I want to have people over for dinner and host holiday parties. Not this year...not yet anyway.



Do I need to spend more time shopping to see the decorations and hear the music? Do I need to take my kids to see Santa once a week so they can shy away, act strange, refuse to get their pictures taken, and really get me in the holiday mood!

I think I need to take some time to just be quiet and reflect. The question is when will I actually have time to stop, be quiet, and reflect? I just wonder what is wrong with me? Why can't I just relax and let myself begin to enjoy the season and look forward to time with my family and holiday traditions?

Giving Tuesday...

I like the concept of a few things during the holiday season...particularly, Small Business Saturday and Giving Tuesday. However, let's face it. This is exhausting. The holidays are supposed to be fun, but where is the fun in all this craziness? As a consumer I have been bombarded for days and days about Black Friday Deals. Then, the day that could really make a difference - Small Business Saturday is an after thought.

Today while I was listening to the radio I heard them talking about Giving Tuesday and realized it gets the least play of all! I think we might have things a little backwards. We are focused on running each other down and grabbing the most stuff the day after we give thanks, so we can celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. I am confused.

I don't think I am going to make sense of it all, but what I do know is that I have abstained from most of the madness. I used my small business to help give to Child Abuse Prevention Association the entire month of November. I will spend December promoting my business - and probably giving teacher gifts from the skincare line, but I will not continue to be so wrapped up in today's "cause" or "promotion" that I forget that this is a wonderful - and in many ways magical - time of the year, if we allow it to be!
